Cal Stopped By Army, 15-4

Visiting Black Knights Break Open Close Game Late In The Second

BERKELEY, Calif. - Army (2-4) closed the first half by scoring the final five goals before intermission to break open a close game and then rolled to a 15-4 win over the Cal lacrosse team on Wednesday at California Memorial Stadium.

Cal scored the game's first goal when Kennedy Goss found the back of the net unassisted with 11:21 remaining in the first, while Kalena Johnson also scored with 3:50 to go in the first to put Cal ahead, 2-1. Army scored the next three goals but when Alyssa Studdert found Kennedy Mason with 7:19 before the half the Golden Bears (1-5) were within a goal at 4-3.

But Army would score the next eight goals including the five to end the first half and all three in the third quarter, while Cal was scoreless over the next 25-plus minute and did not connect again until Belle Tiesi's unassisted tally with 11:41 to go in the fourth made it 12-4.

The Black Knights would add the game's final three scores in the fourth.

Four different Army players posted hat tricks led by Alison Reilly's seven points on five goals and two assists.

Cal returns to action Sunday when the Bears host Winthrop at Noon.
