LOS ANGELES – California women's tennis senior Lan Mi became the third Golden Bear to advance to the NCAA Singles Championship when she won a playoff match Saturday at the ITA West Sectional Championships.
 
The Bears also ended their run at the tournament, held at USC's Marks Tennis Stadium.
 
Mi – who joins Cal senior Katja Wiersholm and sophomore Mao Mushika in the NCAA singles field – defeated Pepperdine's Vivian Yang 6-2, 6-4 to book her ticket for the postseason later this month in Waco, Texas.
 
Mushika, ranked 107th, qualified for NCAA singles Friday after advancing to the semifinals. In Saturday's semifinals, the sophomore fell to UCLA's Kate Fakih 7-6(5), 6-4.
 
In the consolation singles semifinals, Cal's 106th-ranked Berta Passola Folch lost to Arizona's Midori Castillo 6-4, 7-5.
 
Along with the Bears playing in NCAA singles – Wiersholm qualified via the ITA Conference Masters Championships on Saturday – the pair of Mushika and Jessica Alsola will compete at the NCAA Doubles Championship in Waco. The duo earned their berth through the ITA All-American Championships in September.
 
TEMPE, Ariz. – Cal's Tiziana-Marie Schomburg won in singles and doubles Saturday as part of a five-Bear contingent competing in the Thunderbird Invitational at Arizona State.
 
The sophomore defeated Arizona's Stephanie Shogreen 6-4, 6-2 and partnered with freshman Sophie Hernandez to beat ASU's Aiya Nupbay and Karsyn Evans 6-2.
 
The annual ASU tournament ends Sunday.
