BERKELEY - The No. 14 Golden Bears finished a long day with a 7-0 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex. California improved its record to 9-3, while UCSB dropped to 3-6 after the nonconference dual match.

The Bears clinched the overall match at 4-0 when Nikhil Jayashankar won in singles on court six (Walter A. Haas, Jr. Court) - the senior beat Andrew Riminton, 6-4, 7-5 - and the teams played out the remaining three matches.

On Sunday morning at Hellman, the Bears defeated Saint Mary's, 4-0, in another nonconference affair.

Against UCSB, Cal secured the doubles point when its top team – the 30th-ranked pair of seniors Gregory Bayane and Chase Melton – beat Ziad Sultan and Tobias Galskov, 6-4, on court one.

The Bears doubled the lead at 2-0 in singles when 114th-ranked sophomore Filip Bergevi defeated Morgan Mays on court two (Bud Chandler Court), 6-4, 6-4. The score quickly became 3-0 when junior Oskar Wikberg topped Teague Hamilton, 7-5, 6-3, on court five (Hirschler-Davidson Court).

Roughly one hour elapsed before Jayashankar clinched on court six. The day ended when 42nd-ranked sophomore Andre Goransson bested Galskov on court one (Newmark Stadium), 6-2, 6-7(7), 6-2, to make the final score 7-0.

Cal next hits the road to compete in the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships from March 5-8 in La Jolla, Calif., as well as take on San Diego State on March 5 in San Diego.
