Third Round Called For Darkness

BRYAN, Texas -

Play in the third round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships in Bryan, Texas was halted Friday night because of darkness. The final holes of the third round will be finished starting at 7:30 a.m. Central Time on Saturday, May 21. The fourth and final round will also be played on Saturday.

The tournament experienced a close to two hour lightening delay which pushed the timing back and kept six teams, including the Golden Bears, from finishing.

The Bears had a challenging third round, sitting at +17 with three players left to finish their rounds. The Bears, who finished the second round in a tie for eighth place, dropped from the top-ten and are currently in 13th place among the 24 teams in the field.

Pia Halbig, with two holes remaining, is at one-over. After bogeying her first j\hole of the day (10), she rattled off three straight birdies. With a birdie on 18, she finished her first nine at two under. She had three bogeys after the turn, including one and two, to put her at one-over.

Junior Daniela Holmqvist began her round with a birdie on ten, one of three birdies she had in her first nine holes. She gave it all back plus some after having a bad hole number one. She scored another birdie on six to end up at two-over heading into her final hole.

Junior Joanne Lee has the lowest overall score for Cal, sitting at +5. She has three holes left in the third round. Junior Emily Childs was the only Bear to finish 18. Freshman Nicola Roessler withdrew from play.
