Golden Bears Finish Round One at NCAA Championships

BRYAN, Texas -

The No. 6 California Golden Bears got off to a slow start at the NCAA Championships, finishing the first round with a 306 team score (+18), in 19th place among the 24 teams competing at the 6,260 yards, par 72 course at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. UCLA led the teams after the first round with a one-over 289.

The Bears fell behind early, logging five double-bogeys in the first nine holes. They were four strokes better on the back nine, finishing the day at 18-over.

Junior Joanne Lee had the low score for the Bears, shooting a one-over 73. She goes into the second round in a tie for 23rd place, four strokes behind Brittany Altomare of Virginia who shot a three-under 69 to lead the field after the first round.

The Bears will have the later tee times in Thursday's second round, teeing off starting at 12:30 Central Time on the tenth hole. The 72-hole, four day tournament goes through Saturday. Live scoring will be available through the NCAA's website.
