BERKELEY - Postgame Notes - vs. UC Davis (Saturday, September 4)

• Head coach Jeff Tedford recorded his 68th career win today, passing the legendary Pappy Waldorf on Cal's all-time list. He is also tied with Waldorf with 103 career games as Cal's head coach. Tedford is now 68-35 (.660) all-time at Cal. Now in his ninth season at the helm, Tedford is third on the school's all-time win list behind Andy Smith (74, 1916-25) and James Schaeffer (73, 1909-15). Tedford is also only one game shy of coaching the most contests ever at Cal, with Waldorf and Stub Allison (102, 1935-44) the only others to have coached at least 100 games.

• The Bears broke the 50-point mark twice last season, beating Maryland, 52-13 (also the season opener), and Eastern Washington.

• In the first meeting between Cal and UC Davis since 1939, the Bears extended their dominance over the Aggies to 9-0 all-time with a 52-3 victory. The biggest margin of victory in the series was a 54-0 Cal win in 1934.

• The Bears led 35-0 at halftime. The last time Cal shut out an opponent through the first half: Oct. 1, 2005, vs. Arizona, 14-0 (won 28-0)

• The last time Cal led by 35 at halftime was Sept. 6, 2008: 42-3 at Washington State (Cal won, 66-3).

• The Bears scored 28 points in the second quarter today. Last time Cal scored 28 points in a quarter was Oct. 24, 2009, vs. Washington State.

• The Bears yielded only 81 total yards of offense against UC Davis. The last time Cal held an opponent under 150 yards of total offense was Oct. 1, 1994, when San Jose State had 147.

• QB Kevin Riley is now 16-8 all-time as a starter, the active leader in the Pac-10 conference. Riley completed his first nine pass attempts for 143 yards and 2 TDs, yielding signal-calling duties to Beau Sweeney during the 3rd quarter for final stats of 14-of-20 for 258 yards and 3 TDs

• True freshman WR Keenan Allen caught four passes for 120 yards and touchdown, adding three carries for 38 yards and another TD. His first reception in the first quarter was a 17-yard gain in which he made a defender miss en route to a first down. His next touch was on a handoff from Riley, and Allen, after appearing set to pass from the right sideline, reversed fields and ran into the end zone for an 18-yard score.

• Allen's 120 receiving yards are the most receiving yards since LaReyelle Cunningham had 138 at Maryland on Sept. 13, 2008.

• The record for receiving yards by a freshman is 130 by WR/KR DeSean Jackson, who reached that mark twice during the 2005 season: nine catches for 130 yards at New Mexico State on Sept. 23 and six grabs for 130 yards vs. BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 22. In his first game as a Bear, Jackson had two receptions for 37 yards (including a 31-yard TD) as well as one punt return for 49 yards for a touchdown on Sept. 3, 2005, against Sacramento State.

• QB Beau Sweeney recorded his first career touchdown when he rushed for a 4-yard TD late in the 3rd quarter. He finished 6-for-8 for 29 yards passing. QB Brock Mansion also entered the game in the 4th quarter but recorded no stats.

• TB Shane Vereen's 17th and 18th career TDs came late in second quarter, putting him ninth place, two TDs behind J.J. Arrington (2003-04). Vereen finished with 14 carries for 67 yards.

• WR Marvin Jones made a career-best 51-yard catch on his way to 81 yards receiving.

• RB Isi Sofele gained 17 yards on his first rushing attempt of the season in the first quarter and ended with a career high nine attempts and 52 yards rushing.

• RB Dasarte Yarnway saw his first action as a Bear, recording 22 yards on five carries.

• The first career catches were also recorded by TEs Jacob Wark and Solomona Aigamaua

• KR/WR Jeremy Ross 18 yards on first return including a hurdle to elude one defender. His next return was good for 37 yards, finishing with three returns for 55 yards (18.3 ypr).

• LB Keith Browner and DL Trevor Guyton both got their first sacks of the season and second of their careers.

• LB D.J. Holt had two pass breakups, matching his previous single-game high against Maryland in the 2009 opener.

• LB Mike Mohamed recorded seven tackles against the Aggies. The preseason All-American was the Pac-10's leading tackler in 2009.

• Cal now has an all-time record of 72-39-4 in season openers and has won six of its last seven. Cal is a perfect 6-0 when opening the season at home since head coach Jeff Tedford's arrival, with home victories over Baylor (2002), Sacramento State (2005), Tennessee (2007), Michigan State (2008), Maryland (2009) and UC Davis (2010). The Bears are 7-2 overall in season openers under Tedford, also with a victory at Air Force (2004), and losses at Kansas State (2003) and Tennessee (2006).

• Cal has now appeared on live television 45 times in its last 46 contests with the lone exception the Bears' home contest vs. Washington State on Oct. 24, 2009, snapping a string of 38 straight games on television. A total of 87 games have been televised over the last nine seasons during the Jeff Tedford era. Cal has had every game during a season televised only twice in school history, in 2007 and again in '08.

• Today's attendance of 58,040 continued Cal's home attendance streak with Memorial Stadium's 38th straight game with more than 50,000 fans
