Cal Quotes After UC Davis Game

Cal head coach Theresa Sherry
"We had first-game jitters, and they just lasted way too far into the game. I think the way we played in the last three minutes is what we're capable of doing, but we just didn't show up until the very end when it was too late. We are playing a lot of young players, but everybody needs to step up and contribute.

"You have to give credit to Davis. They look great this year. Their attack is fluid. They were doing a phenomenal job on the draws, and I think that's where they really killed us. We just couldn't get the ball. Draws are really the most important stat of the game, and we need to do a better job with those. I'm disappointed, but I think Davis did a great job, and maybe we'll see them again in the conference tournament."

On Alyse Kennedy
"Alyse didn't have her best game, but that's the type of player she is. She can have a lot of stats and still be an impact for us. We're trying to get her to be a more complete player that can be more consistent for us. Maybe she could be a little more disciplined on defense, avoid those cards and make good decisions on the attack. She's always going to be explosive for us. If we can just work on that consistency, she's going to be dominant."

On Allie Welsh
"Allie Welsh is one of our best attackers as well. She took advantage of the opportunities that she had today. We look for her to be one of our quarterbacks down there on the attack. Even as a young player, she's stepping up very well right now. Hopefully her performance today is indicative of some things to come."

On Allie Shropshire
"Allie Shropshire did a great job for us today. I think our defense actually did a very good job; towards the end we would have to force them to goal to get the ball back. We were just playing too much defense. They held on very well in the first half as much as our attack was turning it over. We just can't be playing so many minutes in our defensive end if we're going to win games."
