Over his 37 years as the Cal men’s golf coach, Steve Desimone built the program from a club sport into a national championship team in 2004 and a perennial contender for the NCAA Championship thereafter. Overall, he guided the Bears to 11 NCAA Championships appearances, two Pac-12 titles and a pair of NCAA regional crowns. His 2012-13 squad won an NCAA-record 12 of 14 stroke-play events and reached the NCAA semifinals. Desimone was a two-time National Coach of the Year (2004, 2013) and three-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year (1987, 2012, 2013). Over the course of his career, Cal teams captured 66 tournaments, and he mentored 22 All-Americans and 23 All-American Scholars, with 32 student-athletes advancing to play professional golf. In 2013, he served as coach of the U.S. team at the Palmer Cup and was named the CGBWA Jack Lemmon Ambassador of Golf.
