Won the Robert A. Roos Batting Cup in 1956 with a .385 batting average … during the 1957 season he was moved from the outfield to shortstop … his play there and his .352 batting average made him an All-American and a first team all-district selection that year (1957), and he led his team to a national championship … in basketball, the 6-1 guard played on teams coached by Pete Newell that went to the NCAA regionals and were PCC champions in both 1957 and'58 … captain of the 1958 team and earned all-coast honors in 1957 and '58 … went on to play professional baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958 and the Baltimore Orioles in 1961, '62 and '64 … later became the assistant basketball coach at Cal from 1963-'65.
