One of the finest quarterbacks in Cal history … leader of Andy Smith's famed Wonder Teams which won three consecutive national championships in 1920, '21, and '22 … had a combined record of 27-0-1 as a starter in those three years, during which Cal scored 1,200 points to its opponents' 81 points … directed 1920 team to Cal's first Rose Bowl appearance, subsequently its first Rose Bowl victory, and Cal's first national number one ranking … teamed with Pesky Sprott, Crip Toomey, and Duke Morrison to form the highest scoring backfield in Cal history, rolling up 72 touchdowns and 510 points in 1920 … named team captain of the 1922 PCC Championship team … described by Cal football historian Brick Morse as "the perfect signal caller" as he called his own plays … selected first-team quarterback on Morse's All-Time Cal football team.
