Julia Ortega joined the Cal women's soccer team in July 2026 as a graduate assistant. Prior to Berkeley, Ortega competed as a goalkeeper at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, where she graduated in 2025.

While at Cal, Ortega will pursue a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Cultural Studies of Sport in Education.

Ortega has strong family ties to Cal, as both of her parents, Teresa and David Ortega, attended the university, along with her brother, David Ortega Jr. Her father and brother both competed for the Cal football team during their time in Berkeley. Ortega also has a sister, Gabrielle.
