Kearney registered career totals of 61 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss (-43 yards), 1.0 sack (-17 yards), one interception, three passes defended and two pass breakups over 20 games and eight starts in his two seasons with Cal football as a 2014 sophomore and 2015 junior. Kearney transferred to Cal after playing his freshman campaign at the College of San Mateo in 2013 for a team that won the Bothman Bulldog Bowl and posted a 10-1 record with its lone loss to state champion and unbeaten Butte College. Kearney medically retired from football after the 2015 campaign with one season of collegiate eligibility remaining.

• Posted career highs of 111 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks (-24 yards), a team-high four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble to pick up honorable mention All-EBAL recognition on defense while registering 403 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground and three receptions for 11 yards receiving to total 414 all-purpose yards for an 8-5 team that reached the semifinals of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs during his 2010 junior campaign
