One of the most prolific scorers in California field hockey history, Megan Sainsbury returns for her third season on the Golden Bears' bench. Gaining rapid exposure in the field hockey world, Sainsbury guided the 2005 U.S. Junior Olympic "pink" team to the gold medal in New Orleans, La. In January 2005, Sainsbury worked with U.S. Field Hockey goalkeeper's coach Justine Sowry at the A camp in Virginia Beach, Va.
Sainsbury posted the most assists (13) and second most points (47) in Cal single-season history, set during her 1999 senior season in which she was also named the NorPac Conference's Player of the Year.
Her career totals for assists (34) and points (90) stood for four seasons until the marks were eclipsed by Nora Feddersen in 2003. Sainsbury was an all-conference selection in 1997 and 1998.
The Saratoga, Calif., native spent one season as an assistant coach at Ball State before returning to the Cal program for the 2003 campaign.
Sainsbury earned a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2000 and holds a master's degree in communications from Ball State.
