BERKELEY -
The No. 10 Golden Bears (35-8, 9-5 Pac-12) claimed their second Pac-12 series win by topping the Beavers (26-17, 3-11 Pac-12) 3-1 in game two of the series Saturday at Levine-Fricke Field.
Sophomore Cheyenne Cordes. Jones went 1-for-1 with two walks and Kostreba went 1-for-2 with one walk.
Besides Cordes, junior Jolene Henderson fanned six Beavers to bring her weekend total to 12 without giving up a single walk. She permitted three hits.
Kostreba started the 2013 season off hot with two home runs before a hitting drought stalled her pace, but Saturday, for the first time since Feb. 10, Kostreba got back on track with a leadoff homer at the bottom of the second. Jones kept the inning going, drawing a walk and moving two bases on two ground outs. Cordes singled to left field to score her for a 2-0 lead after the second inning.
Jones added another run at the bottom of the fourth with a dinger to right center before the Beavers cut the Golden Bear lead to 3-1 with their only run of the day – a home run by left fielder Lea Cavestany at the top of the fifth.
Cal will try to complete the series sweep Sunday beginning at noon at Levine-Fricke Field.
