BERKELEY - With a grand slam plus four other home runs, Lindsey Ziegenhirtwas instrumental in the Golden Bears' 39-run, five-game road swing to help lift the team to a 7-2 record in week two, making the senior catcher this week's California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week.
Ziegenhirt finished the week with a total of five home runs, including a monster grand slam in Sunday's game against Portland State to give Cal the lead when the team was behind 1-0. Though she only started two games at catcher, Ziegenhirt made the most of her opportunities each time she was at-bat, tallying a home run at least once in every game except vs. Utah Valley.
Ziegenhirt hit her first solo homer of the season in a midweek matchup vs. UC Davis, and the streak continued at the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas, where she registered a home run against Nevada and San Jose State. She capped off the tournament with a grand slam and 2 RBI homer against Portland State on Sunday.
Ziegenhirt went five-for-nine throughout the week with a .556 batting average and team-high 11 RBI, plus a 2.222 slugging percentage.
