Cal's Cari Bohm Named ACC Defensive Player Of The Week

A Major Honor For The Golden Bears Middle Blocker
BERKELEY— Amid Cal's eight-match winning streak, one of the biggest revelations for the Golden Bears (10-1) has been middle blocker Cari Bohm.
The Illinois transfer went from seeing little to no playing time through the first couple of matches to making program history in the team's lone loss of the season and establishing herself as one of the best defensive players in the country.
While Bohm has been stringing together strong performances over the past few weeks, this last week may have been her strongest yet.
Bohm was named ACC Player of the Week for her performances in Cal's wins over UC Davis, Sacramento State and San Jose State. The three-match stretch saw her record 20 total blocks, including 10 against San Jose State, the second-highest single-match total of her career.
The win over the Spartans also saw Bohm record the ultra-rare middle blocker double-double. Her honor pairs her with libero Sophia Johnson as the only two active Golden Bears to have earned ACC Player of the Week honors since 2012, when Kat Brown won the award. Bohm is now just the sixth player in program history to earn the honor.
Bohm and the Bears will open ACC play on the road this Friday against the Pitt Panthers before traveling to Dallas to take on SMU.
