Cal Falls 17-8 To No. 11 Clemson

Golden Bears Score All Six Goals Of 4th Period After Trailing 17-2

BERKELEY - The California lacrosse team dropped a 17-8 decision to No. 11 Clemson (11-4, 5-3 ACC) in an ACC game Friday at California Memorial Stadium. The Golden Bears (6-9, 1-7 ACC) trailed 17-2 after three periods before scoring all six of the game's goals in the fourth.

Alina Hsu kept Cal within striking distance early on with a pair of goals in the first period on assists from Avery Hoeft and Jane Middleston. The Bears were within 5-2 on Hsu's second goal with 1:21 to go in the first before Clemson rattled off a dozen consecutive goals over the next 22-plus minutes. The blitz finally ended after Jasmine Stanton's unassisted goal with 9:00 minutes remaining in the third.

The Tigers would not score again but also kept the Bears scoreless over the next 12:45 before Maddie Willkomm broke through with an unassisted goal with 11:15 to play in the game. Wilkomm's goal was the first of six consecutive by Cal to end the game. Avery Hoeft was the next to score on an assist from Juliana Doran before Wilkomm assisted on back-to-back goals from Meaghan Lynch and Katie Bloomer. Katie McMullen and Ashleigh Masterson rounded out the game's scoring with unassisted goals.

Brooke Goldstein and Regan Byrne had a game-high-tying four goals each to lead 11 goal scorers for the Tigers, who won for the eighth straight time since their most recent defeat to then No. 1 North Carolina on March 4. Alexa Spallina, who leads the nation with 59 assists through Friday's contest at California, picked up seven more against the Bears and had 17 this week including a career-high 10 in her previous game Tuesday against Davidson.

Cal concludes its 2026 home schedule on Saturday, April 11 when the Bears host Virginia Tech on Senior Day. First draw is at 3 pm and can be watched live on ACCNX/ESPN+.
