Cal Opens ACC Championship As 6th Seed
The 21st-ranked California women's tennis team earned the sixth seed in this week's ACC Championship and plays its first dual match of the conference tournament in the third round on Thursday. The Golden Bears face the winner of Wednesday's second-round match between 11th-seeded and 64th-ranked Georgia Tech and 14th-seeded Florida State in their opener.

Last Time In The ACC Championship
Cal defeated Louisville 4-1 in its ACC Championship opener in 2025, with
Naomi Xu beating Elizabeth Iila 6-2, 7-6(3) to clinch the third-round win over the Cardinals. The Bears ended their conference tournament run in the quarterfinals
when they fell to Virginia 4-0.

Scouting the Bears
- Thursday's match will mark Cal's first neutral-site match of the season, with the Bears also 5-2 on the road and 6-4 at home.
- Freshman Johanne Svendsen played for Denmark in Billie Jean King Cup matches last week against host Portugal, with the Bear falling to Francisca Jorge 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 in her country's 3-0 loss.
- Svendsen also competed for Denmark in the Billie Jean King Cup between 2022 and 2025.
- The Dane has career-best WTA rankings of 361 in singles and 516 in doubles; she is currently ranked 597th in singles and 860th in doubles.
- Svendsen has Cal records of 7-2 in singles and 7-2 in doubles.
- Senior Berta Passola Folch capped an impressive first half of the season when the Cal senior reached the final of the NCAA Singles Championship in the first national individual tournament of her career and earned her first All-America honor along the way.
- The Spaniard qualified for NCAAs by advancing to the semifinals at the ITA West Sectional Championships in Seattle.
- Passola Folch has posted a 27-8 singles record in her final season as a Bear.
- Along with Passola Folch, Cal sent three other Bears to the NCAA Singles Championship in Mao Mushika, Greta Grecco Lucchina and Naomi Xu, while the duo of Mushika and Grecco Lucchina competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship. Mushika is a doubles All-American, who garnered the honor last year when she paired with former Bear Jessica Alsola to earn the No. 4 ranking in the last ITA poll of the 2024-25 season.
- The Bears are led by interim head coach Kris Kwinta, who is also in his fifth season at Cal as the Peter Wright Director of Men's Tennis and is leading the Cal men into their ACC Championship as well.
- Former Cal All-Americans Stephanie Kusano Wallace and Jean Lozano are assistant coaches for the Bears.
