SARATOGA – The California softball team fell to North Carolina, 13-5, on Sunday afternoon at Viking Field to close out the series.

The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Bears answered in the bottom half with a two-run homer from Gator Robinson to take a 2-1 advantage.

North Carolina responded with four runs in the second inning to move back in front, 5-2.

Cal chipped away in the third when Madison Rey singled in a run, and Kyndal Todd followed with a double to left center to cut the deficit to 5-4.

UNC added two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend its lead to 9-4.

After a scoreless sixth, the Tar Heels plated four insurance runs in the seventh to go up 13-4. Rey later drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to make the final score 13-5.

Cal falls to 10-19 on the season and will return to action on Friday, March 20, in Tallahassee, Florida.
