Cal Volleyball Adds Transfer Cari Bohm

Middle Blocker Standout Averaged 1.06 Blocks Per Set At Illinois

The California volleyball team picked up another middle blocker transfer for the 2026 season, announcing the addition of incoming graduate student Cari Bohm to its roster. Bohm, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker who spent the 2022-25 seasons at Illinois and compiled 243 career blocks across 62 total matches with a 1.06 blocks-per-set average, will join the Golden Bears this fall.

"We are excited to welcome Cari to our program," Cal volleyball head coach Jen Malcom said. "She has played in one of the best conferences in the NCAA and gained valuable experience that will greatly benefit our team. Our staff was impressed with her net presence, especially her blocking. Cari is an excellent leader on and off the court and received praise from her coaches and teammates as well as the Big Ten Conference."

After redshirting in 2022, Bohm started all 30 matches for the Illini in 2023 and tied for the eighth-most total blocks in the conference (129) at a pace of 1.12 blocks per set, including a 1.3 blocks-per-set average against opponents ranked in the national top 25. That year, she posted a standout performance of seven blocks and six kills (.500) in a four-set win over No. 16 Purdue as well as a team-high .643 hitting percentage on 10 kills in Illinois' victory over Indiana.

Bohm tallied 114 blocks in 2024 to help the Illini return to the NCAA Tournament after a three-year hiatus, including a nine-block outing to help defeat Western Kentucky and a seven-block performance in her team's win over No. 20 USC. She played one match in 2025 after sitting out most of the year due to injury, a year in which she was also named Illinois' Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner as well as her second Academic All-Big Ten nod (first: 2023).

Prior to her collegiate career, Bohm led Skyline High School to back-to-back Michigan Southeastern Conference titles (2020-21) as well as a district and regional title in 2020. She played club ball for Legacy Volleyball Club, winning a bronze medal at the 2018 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Nationals Open and was subsequently named to the 2018 and 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Phenom Watch Lists as well as the Class of 2022 PrepVolleyball.com Top 150 and Ultra Ankle Junior Volleyball Association (JVA) Watch Lists.

Bohm will be pursuing a master's of education at Cal, following in the footsteps of her father Mark Bohm, who also graduated from Cal with a master's degree in civil structural engineering.
