CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS (0-0, 0-0 ACC) at SAN DIEGO STATE AZTECS (0-0, 0-0 BIG 12)
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2026 • 6 PM PDT
SNAPDRAGON STADIUM (SAN DIEGO, CA)

CALIFORNIA-SAN DIEGO STATE HISTORY
— Cal snapped an eight-game losing streak to San Diego State with a 17-13 victory the last time the teams met on April 20, 2024, in Berkeley. The Bears have dropped five in a row in San Diego with their only victory an 18-9 decision the first time the teams met on March 10, 2012. San Diego State was an 11-9 winner the last time the teams played in San Diego on Feb. 19, 2023.

SNAPDRAGON STADIUM
— Cal is playing for the first time at Snapdragon Stadium, where San Diego State will host the Golden Bears before moving back to the on-campus Aztec Field for the remainder of their home games. Snapdragon Stadium is a 35,000-seat off-campus venue that serves as the home venue for the Aztecs' football team, as well as the professional soccer teams San Diego FC and San Diego Wave FC.

SEASON OPENERS
— The Golden Bears are looking to win their season opener for the fourth straight season under fourth-year head coach Jennifer Wong, who in 2025 became the first head coach to lead Cal to victories in each of its first three season openers. Wong won her Cal coaching debut with a 17-9 victory at Lindenwood in 2003 followed by a 19-10 home win over Akron in 2024 and a 15-14 victory at UC Davis in 2025.
— February 6 equals the earliest date on the calendar that Cal has ever played a regular-season game. The only other time the Bears have played as early in the calendar year was in their first-ever game when they defeated Santa Clara 10-3, on Feb. 6, 1999.

TOUGH 2026 SCHEDULE
— Cal has seven teams on its 2026 schedule that are ranked in the IWLCA's Division I Preseason Coaches Poll. The Bears start with five games against currently unranked teams (at San Diego State, at USC, Florida State, at Oregon, UC Davis) before wrapping up with seven contests against teams currently in the top 25 over their past 12 regular-season contests. No. 14 Duke is the first ranked opponent the Bears are slated to face on Feb. 28 in Durham, North Carolina, followed by a road contest at No. 13 Syracuse (Mar. 3), a home game against No. 1 North Carolina (Mar. 12), a contest at No. 25 Notre Dame (Mar. 28), a home contest against No. 12 Clemson, and a short road trip to Bay Area rival and No. 5 Stanford (Apr. 16) to wrap up the regular season.
— All seven teams that ranked in the 2026 preseason poll played in the 16-team NCAA Championship in 2025, with North Carolina the national champion and Boston College reaching the semifinals.

BEARS FEATURE LARGE GROUP OF RETURNEES
— Cal returns13 of its 17 players that scored points in 2025, led by Emily Moes, who finished with 45 points on 38 goals (both team highs) and seven assists.
— The team's leader in assists in 2025 was Avery Hoeft, who also returns after totaling 18 a year ago. Hoeft had a single-game school record nine of her assists in a 14-7 win against Kent State last season.

WEATHER FORECAST
— Friday's forecast at Snapdragon Stadium at first draw calls for partly cloudy skies, a 0% chance of precipitation, a temperature of 59 degrees, and winds out of the southwest at seven miles per hour.

A LITTLE MORE
— Cal is playing Friday's game in a San Diego city that promotes itself with a tag of "America's Finest City." The phrase was coined in 1972 by former San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson, who would later become a California senator and the state's governor.
— In popular culture, San Diego is the home of the movie character Ron Burgundy, a San Diego news anchor played by Will Ferrell in the movies Anchorman and Anchorman 2. You stay classy, San Diego!
— The Bears have three San Diego natives of their 2026 roster in Alina Hsu from Torrey Pines High School, as well as the Scripps Ranch High School duo of Dahlen Vilbrandt and Isabella Wenstrand.
