Sophomore Posts Two Nation-Leading Times En Route To ACC Weekly Honor
California men's swimming freestyler Ryan Erisman was named ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Erisman had a phenomenal meet for the Golden Bears at the College Swimming League's (CSL) third match. The sophomore dominated the 500 freestyle (4:08.55), finishing more than six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, breaking a CSL record, shaving more than two seconds off his personal-best mark and moving to No. 2 in program history in the event. Erisman then finished first in the 200 butterfly (1:41.68) before breaking yet another CSL record with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:32.12). His marks in the 200 and 500 freestyle are the fastest in the nation, while his time in the 200 butterfly ranks second in Division I.
The Bears opened the season with a second-place finish at their first CSL match, totaling 543.5 points to top third-place Auburn (371.5) and fourth-place Ohio State (255), while falling to Stanford, which finished with 550 points.
The Bears return to action at UC San Diego on Friday, Oct. 9.
