The Golden Bears Beat Both Of The Virginia Schools This Weekend
Just one night after picking up their first ACC victory of the season against the Virginia Cavaliers, the California Golden Bears (11-3) welcomed the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-8) to town on Saturday.
The Golden Bears seemed to have a sense of swagger about them tonight as they quickly knocked off the Hokies in the opening two sets by a score of 25-18. Despite the Hokies tying it up at times or cutting into the lead, it simply never felt like Cal wasn't in control. However, similar to what Cal did on Friday against the Cavaliers, the Bears took their foot off the gas in the third set.
The Hokies took a double-digit lead that Cal attempted to erase, but the Bears ultimately lost 25-18. With the third set serving as a wake-up call for the Bears, they exploded in the fourth. They completely shut down Virginia Tech on offense, limiting the Hokies to just nine points. Offensively, they were as explosive as we have seen them this season, hitting at a .519 clip in the 25-9 victory.
With the win, the Bears move to 12-3 on the season and 2-2 in ACC play.
