Cal Dominates Ohio 9-0

Largest Shutout Win Since 2017

The California field hockey team scored a goal in each period highlighted by a five-goal third period en route to a dominating 9-0 win against Ohio at Underhill Field on Sunday afternoon. The shutout marked the Golden Bears (3-2) largest shutout since an 8-0 win at Bryant University on Sep. 8, 2017. Cal limited the Bobcats (1-5) to just three shot attempts for the entire game.

Seven different Bears got into the scoring column highlighted by Liz Klompmaker's second-career hat trick and Josefina Moyano's pair of goals. Morgan Kallman, Holly Pears, Olivia Sharratt and Hannah Ward also found the back of the net to contribute to the resounding victory. Seven different Cal players also registered an assist.

For the third game already this season, Cal had 20+ shot attempts, matching last season's total number of games with 20+ attempts. The nine goals scored were the most by the Bears since registering nine goals in a win at Stonehill University on Sep. 9, 2023.

"We actually had a really good week of practice and worked extremely hard," Donna Fong Director of Field Hockey Shellie Onstead said. "Our biggest focus was the connection from the midfield to the forwards and getting more production out of the forwards and getting more conversion inside the circle. I couldn't be happier about that. We sustained our level the whole game. That was a really big focus for us and it sets us up well for our big ACC opener next weekend, so we're excited."
