Cal Men’s Tennis Claims ITA Academic Honors

The California men's tennis team earned multiple awards for its work in the classroom for the 2024-25 season Monday, when Cal was of 159 programs to be named an ITA All-Academic Team, while eight Golden Bears – Alex Aney, Alex Chang, Derrick Chen, Theo Dean, Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski, Ethan Schiffman, Timofey Stepanov and Mikey Wright – were among 994 players to be named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
 
In order to claim ITA All-Academic Team status, a program must compile a team GPA of 3.2 or above. To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a player needs to average at least a 3.5 GPA for the academic year.
 
Cal collected the team accolade for the fourth consecutive season, while Wright garnered the individual honor for the third straight year. Aney, Chang, Chen and Stepanov repeated as ITA Scholar-Athletes, Dean earned the second honor of his career, and Lechno-Wasiutynski and Schiffman obtained the distinction for the first time.
