BERKELEY – Two members of the California track & field team competed at Edwards Stadium in the first day of the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Thursday, with senior Riley Knott representing the Golden Bears in the decathlon and junior Torre Anderson appearing in the heptathlon.
 
Knott leads the 20-man field after five events with 3767 points, recording four personal bests on the day. After his first – a time of 11.36 in the 100m – he was the only man to break the seven-meter barrier in the long jump with a winning PR of 7.04m (23-1.25). A career-best mark of 12.14m (39-10) followed in the shot put before Knott recorded his second win of the day, a clearance of 1.99m (6-6.25) in the high jump. In Thursday's final event, Knott shaved over two seconds off his 400m PR to finish the race in 51.36.
 
Anderson collected 2942 points through her first four events, finishing the day in fifth place overall. She posted a career-best mark of 10.94m (34-5) in the shot put and took third place in the 200m with a time of 25.71 to close out the afternoon, following a time of 14.72 in the 100m hurdles and a leap of 1.55m (5-1) in the high jump.
 
Two visiting heptathletes posted multis-specific meet records, as Sacramento State's Eliana Coburn ran the 100m hurdles in 14.11 and Fresno State's Colleen Uzoekwe recorded a throw of 14.52m (47-7.75) in the shot put.
