BERKELEY, Calif. – The California softball team (27-14, 6-9 ACC) fell to No. 9 Florida State (40-6, 14-1 ACC), 16-3, in the series finale on Sunday at Levine-Fricke Field.
The Seminoles held the Golden Bears scoreless with three hits through three innings of action while taking a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.
In the fourth inning,
Lagi Quiroga put the Bears on the scoreboard after finding the gap in left-center field to bring two base runners across home plate, cutting the deficit down to three runs.
The Seminoles quickly responded at the top of the fifth inning with 11 runs on six hits, highlighted by a grand slam by Jahni Kerr, to take a commanding 16-2 lead.
The Bears tacked on a final run but couldn't overcome the deficit to suffer a 16-3 run-rule defeat.
UP NEXT
Cal will turn its attention to the doubleheader against Saint Mary's on Tuesday at Cottrell Field. The first game is slated for 1 p.m. PT.
