BERKELEY – Less than 24 hours from the end of its last match, the California women's tennis team returned to the Hellman Tennis Complex on Friday to rout Boston College 7-0 in its ACC opener. Mao Mushika clinched the victory with a straight-set win in singles.

The Golden Bears improved their record to 4-4 (1-0 ACC) after winning their second of three straight home matches at Hellman. Overall Cal has won three straight matches.

The Eagles are 5-10 (0-1).

Cal won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. First 47th-ranked Mushika and Jessica Alsola bested Alex Torre and Tola Glowacka 6-1 on court one, and then the pair of Lan Mi and Greta Greco Lucchina topped Nada Dimovska and Seren Agar 6-2 on court two to secure the point.

Freshman Sophie Hernandez quickly increased the lead to 2-0 when she beat Dimovska 6-3, 6-0 at court-six singles, and Mi followed with a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory over Muskan Mahajan on court three. Playing on court one, 40th-ranked Mushika bested Olivia Benton 6-2, 6-1 to claim the official win for the Bears.

Alsola, Naomi Xu and Greco Lucchina added singles wins to complete the 7-0 thrashing of the Eagles.

"It's quite fascinating we're undefeated in ACC play, for now," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "I told the team that we have the opportunity to establish some new traditions and new records against all these opponents we're going to see going forward. I was glad to see us get the doubles point today that we didn't quite get yesterday against Pepperdine. We did a really good job in the doubles today and we carried that over to the singles. The team did a good job and we had great tennis-playing conditions. Two down and one more opportunity tomorrow against our next ACC opponent."

Cal hosts No. 56 Syracuse in a conference match Saturday at noon at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
