Cal Uses 3 Straight Home Runs In Fourth To Top Howard

Bell Records 100th Career Hit

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The California softball team (24-7) picked up a win over Howard (11-16), 9-3, on Tuesday at Nationals Youth Academy in Washington. D.C.

The Golden Bears racked up 13 hits, seven RBIs, and three straight home runs in the fourth inning, while pitcher Ryann Orange earned her sixth win with nine strikeouts, matching a career high.

Cal caught fire in the fourth inning, beginning with Nailyn Marshall, who launched her third home run to tack two on the board. Lagi Quiroga followed up with a solo shot to straight-away center field in the next at-bat, a team-leading ninth home run. Elon Butler joined the party to give the Bears the third straight home run of the frame and her sixth of the season.

Tianna Bell knocked in a base hit to score another base runner in the fourth to give Cal a 9-0 lead. With that hit, Bell tallied the 100th hit of her collegiate career.

The Bison put two runs on the scoreboard at the bottom of the fifth to avoid a run rule and added another in the seventh but couldn't overcome the deficit.
