Marshall Drives In Game-Winning Run

BERKELEY – The California softball team (22-4, 5-0 ACC) earned its 16th straight win after defeating Georgia Tech (16-11, 4-4), 5-4, at Levine-Fricke Field in Berkeley, Calif.

The Golden Bears edged out the Yellow Jackets in walk-off fashion after Nailyn Marshall drove in the game-winning win with a base hit up the middle of the field to help Cal clinch the three-game series.

After falling behind to start the game, the Bears put four runs on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the first inning to take the lead. Acacia Anders blasted a two-run home run, her third long ball of the season and second of the series, to give the Bears a 2-1 advantage.

Mika Lee continues to put a bat on a ball after knocking in a double to the center field wall to bring a runner across the plate. Lee has now recorded a hit in eight straight games and had four multi-hit games during that span. Mia Phillips followed with an RBI single as the Bears increased their lead to 4-1.

The Yellow Jackets slowly chipped away at the deficit and eventually tied the score in the fourth inning with an RBI double from Jayden Gailey.

Stellar pitching from both sides held both offenses at bay through the next two innings.

With runners on second and third base, Nailyn Marshall stepped up to the plate and drove a ball straight up the middle to bring the game-winning run home to give the Bears the win.

Miranda De Nava took the mound at the top of the fifth with one out and retired eight of the nine batters she faced through 2.2 innings, recorded four strikeouts and surrendered one hit.
