Former Golden Bears’ Linebacker Named NFL’s Defensive Rookie Of The Month

Teddye Buchanan was named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month for October to highlight the accomplishments by Pro Bears in Week 8 of the NFL season. The Baltimore linebacker registered 30 tackles, four tackles for loss and one quarterback hit in three contests, including a career-high 15 tackles and one tackle for loss in a 44-10 Week 5 home loss to Houston.

  • Jaylinn Hawkins returned from a two-game absence due to injury and came up with a highlight reel one-handed interception to help New England to a 32-13 home win over Cleveland that extended the Patriots' win streak to five in a row, which is tied with the Broncos for the longest currently in the league.
  • Jake Tonges caught his fourth touchdown pass of the season in San Francisco's 26-15 loss at Houston.

Cal has 12 former players on active rosters of teams with winning records through the first eight weeks of the 2025 NFL season with the list including WR Keenan Allen (Los Angeles Chargers, 5-3), RB Chris Brooks (Green Bay, 5-1-1), S Camryn Bynum (Indianapolis, 7-1), QB Jared Goff (Detroit, 5-2), DB Elijah Hicks (Chicago, 4-2), S Jaylinn Hawkins (New England, 5-2), OL Patrick Mekari (Jacksonville. 4-3), WR Nikko Remigio (Kansas City, 5-3), QB Aaron Rodgers (Pittsburgh, 4-3), TE Jake Tonges (San Francisco, 5-3) and DB Nohl Williams (Kansas City, 4-3).

A total of 26 former Golden Bears are currently affiliated with NFL teams. Keenan Allen – WR, Los Angeles Chargers (5-3, No. 6 AFC, T2nd AFC West): Allen had four receptions and 44 yards receiving in a 37-10 Week 8 home win over Minnesota the game after picking up 11 receptions for 119 yards with one touchdown grab in a 38-24 Week 7 loss to Denver with the 11 receptions his most since he had 14 in a home game against Baltimore on Nov. 26, 2023. Allen now has 48 receptions that rank eighth in the NFL, 479 yards receiving and four scoring grabs in his 13th NFL season overall and 12th campaign with the Chargers in 2025 during a campaign which included becoming the fastest player in NFL history and the 16th overall to reach 1,000 or more career receptions during a Week 5 home loss to Washington. Bryan Anger – P, Dallas (3-4-1, No. 10 NFC, 2nd NFC East): Anger punted five times for 252 yards (50.4 avg, 45.2 net) including a long of 58 yards on his final punt and three of 50 or more yards in a 44-24 Week 8 loss at Denver. He also pinned the Broncos inside their own 20-yard line twice and forced three fair catches. Anger has punted 28 times for 1321 yards (47.0 avg, 41.4 net) in 2025, including 11 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line and 10 fair catches. Chris Brooks – RB, Green Bay (5-1-1, No. 1 NFC, 1st NFC North): Brooks saw action in 26 plays (season-high 21 special teams, 5 offense) but did not have any stats other than participation in a 35-25 Week 8 win at Pittsburgh on Thursday Night Football. Brooks has contributed five receptions for 30 yards, two rushes for two yards and a career-high six tackles while playing in all seven contests off the bench in 2025. Teddye Buchanan – LB, Baltimore (2-5, No. 12 AFC, 3rd AFC North): Buchanan had six tackles and a career-high two tackles for loss in a 30-16 Week 8 home win over Chicago to wrap up an October in which he was named the AFC's Defensive Rookie of the Month with a combined 30 tackles, four tackles for loss and one quarterback hit in three contests, including a career-high 15 tackles and one tackle for loss in a 44-10 Week 5 home loss to Houston. Buchanan has played in all seven games with starts in each of the last six as a 2025 NFL rookie and leads the Ravens with 55 tackles while adding 0.5 sacks (-2.5 yards), four tackles for loss and one quarterback hit. Camryn Bynum – S, Indianapolis (7-1, No. 1 AFC, 1st AFC South): Bynum had five tackles and one pass defense in a 38-14 Week 8 home win over Tennessee. In his first seven games of 2025 (all starts), he has 36 tackles, two interceptions that he has returned 14 yards and five pass defenses. Bynum is tied for 10th in the NFL with his team-high-tying two interceptions, while his five pass defenses co-lead the club. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 10 am – at Pittsburgh (4-3) – CBS

Jake Curhan – OT, Carolina (4-4, No. 9 NFC, 2nd NFC South): Curhan played in season highs of 13 offensive and 16 total snaps while seeing action in his fourth straight contest for Carolina in a 40-9 Week 8 home loss to Buffalo. Curhan made his Panthers' debut in a 27-24 Week 5 home win over Miami after Carolina had claimed him from the Arizona practice squad. Curhan also played in one game for the Cardinals in 2025 in a 16-15 Week 3 loss at San Francisco. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 10 am – at Green Bay (5-1-1) – FOX

Ashtyn Davis – S, Miami (2-6, No. 14 AFC, 3rd AFC East): Davis played in just a single special teams snap before being injured and not returning in a 34-10 Week 8 win at Atlanta one game after a season-high seven tackles and a season-high-tying one tackle for loss in a 31-6 Week 7 loss at Cleveland. Davis has 26 tackles, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one pass defense over eight games played and five starts in 2025 after signing a one-year contract with the Dolphins prior to the season following five campaigns with the New York Jets (2020-24). Jared Goff – QB, Detroit (5-2, No. 5 NFC, 2nd NFC North): Goff, who had a Week 8 bye, completed 20-of-29 passes for 241 yards with one touchdown and one interception for a 91.3 rating in his most recent action in a 24-9 Week 7 home win over Tampa Bay on Sunday Night Football. Goff is second in the NFL in rating (116.5) and completion percentage (74.9%, 152-of-203) with career highs in both, tied for sixth in touchdown passes (15) and 13th in passing yards (1631) with just three interceptions (tied for third-lowest among qualifying leaders) over his first seven games. His 2025 season has featured an NFC Offensive Player of the Week performance in a 52-21 Week 2 home win over Chicago when he was 23-of-28 for 334 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions for a 156.0 rating, with his five touchdown passes equaling a career high and the rating his third-best ever in a game. Cameron Goode – LB, Miami (3-6, No. 14 AFC, 3rd AFC East): Goode had one special teams tackle in a 34-10 Week 8 win at Atlanta in which he played in a team-high-tying 18 special teams played and two defensive snaps. Goode has played in all eight games of the 2025 season off the bench and contributed a career-high nine tackles. Week 9 – Thu., Oct. 30, 5:15 pm – vs. Baltimore (2-5) – Prime Video

Marcus Harris – CB, Tennessee (1-7, No. 16 AFC, 4th AFC South): Harris registered a career-high-tying two tackles while playing in career highs of 12 defensive and 33 overall snaps (21 on special teams) in a 38-14 Week 8 road loss at Indianapolis. Harris has played in seven of eight games in 2025, all off the bench primarily on special teams, where he has played in 136 of his 150 plays. He has contributed five tackles and one blocked extra-point recovery.
Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 10 am – vs. Los Angeles Chargers (5-3) – CBS

Jaylinn Hawkins – S, New England (6-2, No. 2 AFC, 1st AFC East): Hawkins had a one-handed interception that went viral, five tackles and one pass defense while playing in all 54 defensive plays in a 32-13 Week 8 home win over Cleveland that extended the Patriots win streak to five in a row that is tied for the NFL's longest current streak after he had missed the previous two games with a hamstring injury. Hawkins, who starts at safety for the Patriots along with fellow former Golden Bear Craig Woodson, has played in and started six of eight games in 2025 and contributed 28 tackles, along with two interceptions that are tied for 10th in the NFL that he has returned one yard, 1.5 sacks (-9 yards), two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, two pass defenses and one fumble recovery. Elijah Hicks – S, Chicago (4-3, No. 8 NFC, 3rd NFC North): Hicks contributed one tackle while participating in a team-high-tying 21 special teams plays in a 30-16 Week 8 loss at Baltimore. Hicks has played in all seven games off the bench in 2025 and contributed six tackles. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 10 am – at Cincinnati (3-5) – CBS

Cameron Jordan – DE, New Orleans (1-7, No. 16 NFC, 4th NFC South): Jordan registered one tackle in a 23-3 Week 8 home loss to Tampa Bay. Jordan has started each of the first eight games of the 2025 season, his 15th in the NFL all with New Orleans, and compiled 20 tackles, 2.5 sacks (21.5 yards), four tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, one pass defense and one fumble recovery during a 2025 season in which he has passed Drew Brees as New Orleans' all-time leader in both games played and games started. Patrick Mekari – OL, Jacksonville (4-3, No. 8 AFC, 2nd AFC South): Mekari had a Week 8 bye after starting each of the first seven games at right guard and playing in every offensive snap in four. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 1:05 pm – at Las Vegas Raiders (2-5) – FOX

Nikko Remigio – WR/RET, Kansas City (5-3, No. 7 AFC, T2nd AFC West): Remigio had 59 combined yards by returning two punts for 13 yards and two kicks for 46, while also playing in one offensive snap in a 28-7 Week 8 home win over Washington to make it three consecutive victories for the Chiefs. Remigio has played in all eight games off the bench in 2025 and is second on the team with 489 combined yards. Remigio leads the club in both kick (13-338) and punt (14-119) returns, while adding one reception for 21 yards and one rush for 11 yards. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 1:25 pm – at Buffalo (5-2) – CBS

Aaron Rodgers – QB, Pittsburgh (4-3, No. 4 AFC, 1st AFC North): Rodgers completed 24-of-36 passes (both season highs) for 219 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 101.5 rating in a 35-25 Week 8 home loss to his former Green Bay squad on Sunday Night Football. Rodgers has started each of the first seven games of the 2025 season and completed 142-of-208 passes for 1489 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions for a 104.4 rating that is eighth in the NFL and his highest since posting a 111.9 mark the season he earned his fourth and most recent Associated Press MVP honor in 2021 while still with the Packers. In his Steelers' debut in Week 1, Rodgers led Pittsburgh to a 34-32 comeback road win in the house of his other former team, the New York Jets, by completing 22-of-30 passes for 244 yards with a season-high-tying four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 136.7 rating that was his best in a game since the 2022 campaign. He also threw for four touchdowns in a 33-31 Week 7 loss at Cincinnati. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 10 am – vs. Indianapolis (7-1) – CBS

Jake Tonges, TE, San Francisco (5-3, No. 7 NFC, 3rd NFC West): Tonges caught his fourth touchdown pass of the season (tied for 13th in the NFL) on a 2-yarder that was his lone catch and added one tackle in a 26-15 Week 8 loss at Houston. Tonges, who has received extended action with starting tight end George Kittle missing five of the first eight games has posted a season full of accomplishments and highlights including his first career start in a 16-15 Week 3 win over Arizona, a heroic performance in a 17-13 Week 1 victory at Seattle when he made a game-winning acrobatic four-yard touchdown catch in the end zone on the 49ers' final drive, six catches for a career-high-tying 58 yards, as well as a career-high two tackles in a 30-19 Week 6 loss at Tampa Bay, and a career-high seven receptions for 41 yards, including a six-yard touchdown catch for the game's opening score, in a 26-23 Week 5 win at the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football. Tonges' four touchdown receptions in 2025 are a team high and he also has all 26 of his career receptions to rank third on the team and 226 yards receiving that are fourth. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 10 am – at New York Giants (5-3) – CBS

Nohl Williams – CB, Kansas City (5-3, No. 7 AFC, T2nd AFC West): Williams took eight defensive snaps and played in 11 special teams played but did not record any statistics other than participation in a 28-7 Week 8 home win over Washington that was the Chiefs third in a row. Williams has played in each of the first eight games of his 2025 NFL rookie season and contributed 15 tackles, three pass defenses and a downed punt inside the 5-yard line. Week 9 – Sun., Nov. 2, 1:25 pm – at Buffalo (5-2) – CBS

Craig Woodson – S, New England (6-2, No. 2 AFC, 1st AFC East): Woodson played in 51 of 54 defensive snaps and contributed three tackles in a 32-13 Week 8 home win over Cleveland. He has started each of his first eight games as a 2025 NFL rookie, totaling 37 tackles that rank third on the team, four tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one pass defense.
