The California women's lacrosse team (4-9, 1-4 Pac-12) led most of the way before falling, 12-11, to UC Davis (9-5, 2-3 Pac-12) in a key Pac-12 matchup on a cold and damp late Saturday afternoon at California Memorial Stadium.
Cal held a 7-4 advantage at intermission but a pair of second-half Aggie scoring runs were the difference.
UC Davis scored the first five goals of the second half to erase their three-goal halftime deficit and post a 9-7 advantage but the Bears answered with four consecutive goals of their own to take an 11-9 lead before the Aggies scored the game's last three goals over the final 6:19. Natalie Markman unassisted goal with 2:06 on the clock was the game-winner.
Kennedy Goss equaled a career-high-tying four goals to pace the Bears, while Grace Gebhardt had game-highs of five goals and six points for the Aggies.
Cal returns to action next Saturday by hosting San Diego State (2-12, 1-4 Pac-12) on Senior Day at California Memorial Stadium in its final 2024 regular-season home game. The contest will be televised on Pac-12 Mountain with first draw scheduled for 11 a.m. PDT.
