Berkeley, Calif. – The 20th-ranked California field hockey team (6-2, 0-2 ACC) fell to No. 12 Duke (6-4, 2-1 ACC), 4-0, on Friday at Underhill Field in Berkeley, Calif.
Cal started slow on the offensive end, failing to register a shot in the opening period. Duke took the advantage after draining a shot late in the period to take the 1-0 lead into the second period.
Despite three penalty corners in the second period, the Golden Bears struggled to find the back of the net in the frame.
The Blue Devils continued to apply pressure in the second half after scoring two goals in the third period en route to securing the 4-0 victory.
Cal will face off against No. 1 North Carolina at noon on Sunday.
