BERKELEY – The California women's tennis duo of Makenna Thiel and Berta Passola Folch – the last two Golden Bears competing in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships – lost to the top-seeded and 17th-ranked Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs 8-2 in Monday morning's doubles quarterfinals at the Hellman Tennis Complex.

The Huskies advanced to the afternoon semifinals.

The setback ended a promising tournament for Passola Folch, a junior who also reached the quarterfinals of the singles main draw.

The ITA regional tournament ends Tuesday at Hellman with the singles final and singles third-place match – both starting at 10 a.m. PT - with the doubles final to follow after suitable rest, as three of the four players competing in singles Tuesday are also in the doubles final.

The ITA West Sectional Championships, scheduled for Nov. 7-10 in Los Angeles, is likely the next competition for Cal, with multiple Bears expected to be named to the field. Cal hopes to qualify more Bears for the NCAA individual championships through sectionals. Senior Jessica Alsola and sophomore Mao Mushika have already qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
