ABOUT THE SERIES
– Saturday will be the 94th all-time meeting between California and UCLA
– UCLA leads the series 58-34-1 and has won nine of the last 12 matchups
– The Bruins have had an advantage at the Rose Bowl as of late with the Bears winning in just 2009 and 2019 since the year 2000, while Cal is 8-3 at CMS in the same span. Cal's 28-18 victory in 2019 secured a bowl berth as the Bears went on to beat Illinois 35-20 in the Redbox Bowl
– With a win Saturday, Cal clinches bowl eligibility for the first time since 2019 and 25th time overall with an all-time bowl game record of 12-11-1 Â
OTT-STANT IMPACT Â
– All-American candidate
Jaydn Ott moved past Shane Vereen for 10th-place on Cal's all-time single-season rushing yards list last week at Stanford. Ott is one shy of the top 10 for rushing touchdowns with 11 (four with 12) and four off the school record of 15 shared by J.J. Arrington (2004), Justin Forsett (2007) and Jahvid Best (2008)
– Ott cemented the 19th 1,000-yard rushing season in Cal history and first since Patrick Laird in 2017 in the Nov. 18 win over Washington State. 17 Cal players have recorded 1,000 rushing yards in a season with Marshawn Lynch and Russell White each doing it twice
– Ott has 1,180 rushing yards on 208 carries through the first 11 games of 2023, while adding 20 receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns
– Ott has five of the top nine rushing games by Pac-12 players in 2023 while no one else has more than one (188 at North Texas, 167 vs. Washington State, 166 at Stanford, 165 vs. Arizona State, 153 vs. USC)
– Ott is among Pac-12 and national leaders in several rushing categories - rushing yards per game (118.0, No. 1 Pac-12, No. 4 NCAA), rushing yards (1,180, No. 1 Pac-12, No. 7 NCAA), all-purpose yards per game (132.0, No. 1 Pac-12, No. 13 NCAA), total touchdowns (13, No. 1 Pac-12, No. 13 NCAA), rushing touchdowns (No. 1 Pac-12, No. 20 NCAA), and rush yards per carry (5.67, No. 6 Pac-12, No. 38 NCAA)
– Ott moved into Cal's all-time top 10 for rushing touchdowns, currently 10th with 19 in his career
– Ott (2,077) has more career rushing yards after his first 22 games played than any player in Cal history with J.J. Arrington (2,022, 2003-04) the only other player with 2,000 or more Â
– Scoring on touchdown runs of 61 and 43 yards in the Oct. 28 game vs. USC, Ott now has five career TD runs of at least 40 yards
CADE'S WORLD Â
– Freshman All-American and Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year candidate
Cade Uluave has made an immediate impact after stepping into a starting role at inside linebacker. He was named Pac-12 Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week on Nov. 13 after recording two fumble recoveries (one returned for a TD), one interception, a forced fumble and nine tackles in Week 11's win over WSU
– Uluave is second among Pac-12 freshmen in total tackles and tackles per game (46, 4.2), while his career 0.2 fumbles forced per game and 0.2 fumble recoveries per game are both tied for the most of any active Cal player
– Uluave became the first Cal player since Nick Forbes in 2012 vs. Washington with multiple fumble recoveries in the same game as the Bears were the first FBS team since Western Kentucky in 2007 to have three fumble recovery touchdowns in the same game against WSU. Cal is the first Pac-12 team since USC in 2003 vs. UCLA to have multiple fumble recovery scores in the same gameÂ
