Oregon Erases Second Quarter Deficit To Defeat Cal

BERKELEY - Oregon's football team broke open a close game with three touchdowns in less than seven minutes spanning halftime and went on to a 42-24 victory over Cal on Saturday afternoon at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium.

The Bears (3-5, 1-4 Pac-12) played the Ducks evenly for most of the first half and held a 10-7 lead until Oregon surged in front 14-10 with 4:14 to go before the half. The Ducks added another score later in the quarter and led 21-10 at halftime.

Cal got on the scoreboard first on Dario Longhetto's 28-yard field goal with 4:01 remaining in the first quarter. Oregon answered with a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter but the Bears came right back to go back in front on Jack Plummer's 6-yard touchdown pass to J.Michael Sturdivant.

Sturdivant led Cal with six catches for 71 yards and his team-best sixth touchdown reception while Jeremiah Hunter added five catches for 96 yards. Plummer was 20-for-33 for 214 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

Redshirt freshman Kai Millner relieved Plummer in the fourth quarter and threw the first two touchdown passes of his career.

Cal's defense registered two interceptions - one each by Orin Patu and Oluwafemi Oladejo.

The Bears hit the road next week to take on No. 10 USC at 7:30 p.m. PT. The game will air on ESPN.
