EUGENE, Ore., - Top seed and No. 17 USC scored early and often, and the Trojans defeated California, 16-5, Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament from Pape Field on the campus of tournament-host Oregon. The Golden Bears conclude the 2019 season with a final overall record of 7-12.
Eliza Christman scored twice in her final collegiate game at Cal. Fellow senior
Kirsten Swanson also tallied two points on a goal and an assist. Junior
Susie Ropp recorded a goal and an assist, as well.
Cameron Gordon scored a goal and
Caroline Corzel notched an assist to round out the scoring for the Bears.
Christman also paced the Bears in draw controls with three, while Ropp led the way with two ground balls, and Swanson and Corzel each caused two turnovers. Christman ends the campaign as Cal's single-season record holder in draws with 81.
With 12 saves,
Jenny Wilkens recorded her 23rd career double-digit save performance in her final game at Cal. It was also the Cal goalie's fifth double-digit save performance this season. The 12 saves were one shy of her season high. Wilkens collected three ground balls to set the school's single-season record with 54. She is already the career record holder now with 173.
For their efforts over the course of two games played in the tournament, Christman and Swanson were both named to the all-tournament team.
