California returns to Berkeley for three of its next four games beginning with Friday night's contest against No. 8/9 Washington State. The Golden Bears defeated the Cougars, 34-28, the last time the teams met in Berkeley on Oct. 3, 2015.

After visiting then No. 6/5 Washington last week, the last time Cal has played back-to-back top-10 teams was in 2013 (No. 3 Ohio State, No. 2 Oregon). The last time Cal has played three top-10 teams in the same season was also in 2013 (No. 10 Stanford).

Offensive coordinator/running backs/assistant head coach Beau Baldwin, a native of Tacoma, Wash., came to Cal after serving as head coach at Eastern Washington from 2008-16. In 2016, Baldwin helped EWU compile a 12-2 overall record with one of the victories against Washington State, a 45-42 upset victory in Pullman on Sept. 3, 2016. Eastern Washington is located in Cheney, Wash., just over 60 miles from Pullman.

Devante Downs, a native of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., is a candidate for awards honoring the nation's top player and linebacker as a member of watch lists for the Chuck Bednarik Award, Lott IMPACT Trophy and Butkus Award. He is already a two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week winner this season and leads the Pac-12 in tackles while ranking tied for 10th nationally (10.0 tpg). Downs has a total of 60 stops this season and 207 for his career. Mychal Kendricks was Cal's most-recent Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

Evan Weaver, a native of Spokane, Wash., tied a career-high with six tackles and had a career-high 2.0 tackles for loss at Washington last Saturday.

Ross Bowers, a native of Bothell, Wash., has a current string of 66 consecutive passes thrown without an interception spanning back to his last interception in the fourth quarter vs. USC.

Since 2015, Cal is 11-4 when playing at California Memorial Stadium, including 2-1 this season.

Cal is 3-0 when winning the turnover battle, 0-2 when losing it and 0-1 when the margin is even.

Cal is among the nation's leaders in turnovers gained (T11th) and defensive TDs (T13th).

The Bears have trailed in the second half in all three wins this season, including twice in the fourth quarter. Cal shut out Weber State and Ole Miss in the second half.

Matt Anderson has 259 career points and is 29 shy of Doug Brien's record for career scoring (288) while his 47 field goals are nine short of Brien's career field goals record (56).
