LA JOLLA, Calif. – California placed four Golden Bears in Saturday's main draw round of 16 at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Friday. The pair of Andre Goransson and Billy Griffith along with the team of Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat each won three times on their first day of action to advance.

Another Cal duo – consisting of associate head coach Tyler Browne and sophomore J.T. Nishimura – likewise won three matches Friday to reach Saturday's round of 16.

Seeded sixth, juniors Bergevi and Lakat dropped just two games on Friday, beating Bryan Mehall and Oliver Seifert from Claremont-Mudd Scripps, 8-1, in the first round and knocking off the UC Davis pair of Tommy Lam and Jesse Ross, 8-1, in the round of 64. The Bears had a walkover in the next round when the Rice duo of Adam Gustafsson and David Warren – the 11th seed – withdrew with an injury.

The 14th seeded pair of Goransson, a junior, and Griffith, a sophomore, lost just six games in three matches, with the last one resulting in an 8-4 victory over UC Irvine's Jonathan Hammel and Tyler Pham in the round of 32.

When the pair of senior Wyatt Houghton and freshman Gunther Matta lost in the first round of the main draw, they move on to the consolation draw and advanced a couple of rounds. They defeated Boston College's Peter Campana and Sayer Paige, 8-6, in the round of 128 before getting a bye in the next round. But the Bears' run came to an end with an 8-2 loss to UC Irvine's Sebastian Heim and Nico Mertens.

The Pacific Coast Doubles Championship – the second-oldest tournament in the United States – concludes on Sunday.
