SAN FRANCISCO ? California could pick up its first hardware of the season at the Battle in the Bay Classic on Sunday, when Andre Goransson and Florian Lakat play in the doubles final. The Golden Bears have a shot at the single title as well, as Goransson battles teammate Filip Bergevi in a singles semifinal at the California Tennis Club.

Ranked 25th and seeded second in the doubles tournament, the pair of Cal juniors won twice on Saturday to reach the title match. First Lakat and Goransson shut out Boise State's Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell in the quarterfinal round, 8-0, and then the Bears edged Cal Poly's Garrett Auproux and Corey Pang, 8-7(5), in the semifinals. In Sunday's final, Lakat and Goransson take on San Diego's Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek at 9 a.m.

Goransson - seeded No. 1 in singles and ranked 22nd ? also defeated Auproux in the round of 16, stopping the Mustang 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. He followed with another three-set win, this time against USC's Jack Jaede, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in quarterfinals. Bergevi ? seeded fifth and ranked 64th ? topped another Trojan, Tanner Smith, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 16 before beating Michigan's Carter Lin, 6-3, 6-3 ,to earn spot against his Swedish countryman in the semis on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Any chance Cal had to put three Bears in the singles final four went by the wayside when Lakat ? ranked 36th and seeded third ? suffered an upset loss to USC's Jake DeVine, 7-6(5), 6-4, in the round of 16.

“The boys had a great day on the courts,” Cal associate head coach Tyler Browne said. “Andre and Flo played exceptionally high-quality doubles. They're feeding off each other's energy and learning how to play well together. In singles both Filip and Andre continue to stick to their process and are developing into better players.”
