WACO, Texas – Playing in his first postseason individual tournament, California's 29th-ranked Andre Goransson lost to Louisville's fifth-seeded and fifth-ranked Sebastian Stiefelmeyer in the NCAA Singles Championship opener Wednesday at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center. The Golden Bear sophomore fell to the Cardinal senior, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 64.

“Andre did a tremendous job this season, and playing in the NCAA tournament as a sophomore is evidence of how much he's improved,” Cal head coach Peter Wright said. “The future is bright for him, and I know he'll use his experience from this season to come back stronger next year.”

Goransson – the 2015 ITA Northwest Regional Player to Watch – finishes the 2014-15 season with a 26-11 overall singles record.

The loss ends the year for Cal men's tennis. As a team, the Bears fell in the NCAA Championship round of 32 on May 9 at Texas, 4-1, to finish with a 19-9 overall record.

“Overall a very good performance from all our team members this year,” Wright added, “and I couldn't be more proud of the fine young men we have in our program.”
