INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – California lost its first dual match of the BNP Paribas Collegiate Challenge Presented by Oracle when the 28th-ranked Golden Bears fell to No. 29 Columbia, 4-1, on Friday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Bears lost the doubles point and then Oskar Wikberg captured one of four singles matches before the Lions clinched the victory. The Cal junior beat Bert Vancura, 6-4, 6-3, on court six.

"We have to learn to push through some of the tough spots in our matches," Cal head coach Peter Wright said. "We've been doing the right things the majority of the time, and we haven't been proactive enough in some key situations."

Cal next takes on Purdue in the consolation bracket on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in Indian Wells.
