FLUSHING, N.Y. – Andre Goransson began his run at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships with a victory in Thursday's opening round of 32 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The California junior – ranked 22nd in the ITA preseason poll – defeated Denver's 75th-ranked Diogo Rocha, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to Friday's round of 16.

Goransson, attempting to win Cal's first singles championship at national indoors, faces Ohio State's Mikael Torpegaard in the round of 16. The 32nd-ranked Torpegaard upset South Florida's sixth-seeded and 13th-ranked Roberto Cid, 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-4, in the round of 32.

The national indoor tournament – Cal's last competition of the fall – ends on Sunday.
