California-Arizona Postgame Notes
With today's result, Arizona now leads the all-time series, 16-14-2. The Bears have not won in Tucson since 38-0 victory in 2004.
Cal has scored on its opening drive in all three games this season. Daniel Lasco scored on a 44-yard TD run on a three-play drive.
QB Jared Goff connected with Bryce Treggs for an 80-yard touchdown reception on the first play of Cal's second drive. The reception was the longest of Treggs' career and the second longest career pass for Goff. It was also Treggs' second touchdown this season and his fourth career touchdown. Treggs finished with 5 catches for 119 yards, his third career 100-yard receiving performance.
Goff ended the night 18-for-30 for 380 yards and 3 touchdowns and a 192.7 QB rating. Goff now has nine career multi-touchdown games and six games with three or more touchdown passes. He is also tied for seventh now all-time at Cal with nine 250-yard passing performances and tied for second with six 300-yard passing performances.
Goff's 294 first-half passing yards were the second most in his career after he posted 345 in the first half against Washington State last year. He threw for a school-record 504 yards in that game against WSU.
The 50 combined points by Cal (14) and Arizona (36) in the fourth quarter set a school record for most points by both teams in one quarter. The previous mark was 44 – Cal (30) vs. Southern Utah (14) on Sept. 8, 2012.
Stephen Anderson caught his first career touchdown reception and his first catch of the season on a 26-yard reception from Goff in the second quarter. Anderson made his season debut tonight.
Lasco led the Bears in rushing with a personal best 20 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown – the first 100-yard game of his career. Lasco's total of 123 yards was the most for a Bear since Isi Sofele had 134 vs. Oregon in 2012.
Chris Harper hauled in his ninth career receiving touchdown and his second this season when he and Goff connected for a 30-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter.
Griffin Piatt picked off his third pass in as many games this year near the end of the first half. In addition, Avery Sebastian picked off his second career interception in the first quarter.
Puka Lopa notched his third career sack in the third quarter. Brennan Scarlett garnered his fourth career sack, second this season, in the third quarter. Mustafa Jalil followed Scarlett's sack with his first career solo sack.
With the 14-0 Cal lead at the end of the first quarter, the Bears have now outscored their opponents, 56-0, in the first quarter through the first three games this season. Last year, opponents outscored Cal, 181-51, in the first quarter.
Cal has outscored its opponents, 97-20, in the first half through the first three games. Cal led Northwestern, 31-7, at halftime, Sacramento State, 45-7, and the Bears led Arizona at the half tonight, 28-6.
Cal posted nine plays of at least 40 yards vs. Arizona after entering the game with a total of five plays of 40 or more yards through the Bears' first two games.
The Bears did not enter the red zone until Khalfani Muhammad's 6-yard TD rush with 5:21 left in the fourth quarter. Each of Cal's first four touchdowns was from at least 26 yards out.
