Cal Ends Run in Harvard Chowder Fest
BOSTON – California wrapped up its stay in the Harvard Chowder Fest with five wins in singles on Sunday at the Beren Tennis Center. The three-day, season-opening tournament included the Golden Bears, host Crimson, San Diego and Tulsa.

Nikhil Jayashankar and
Jack Sanford all triumphed. Bayane (1-2 singles record in Boston) topped USD's Uros Petronijevic, 6-3, 6-2, in singles flight 2, Jayashankar beat USD's Andrew Raphaelson, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, in flight 5 to wind up with a 2-2 mark, and Sanford topped the Torero's Andrew Carlisle in flight 7, 6-3, 2-6, 6-5(6) at the Chowder Fest. Wyatt Houghton (1-2) added a 6-4, 6-1, victory over the Torero's Patrick Hall in flight 6, while freshman
Andre Goransson (2-1) dispatched San Diego's Romain Kalaydjian, 6-3, 6-3, in flight 3.
In flight 1, Bear freshman Filip Bergevi dropped a 6-2, 6-3, result to USD's Clarke Spinosa – who won the overall singles title at Harvard – while sophomore Mads Engsted retired from his flight-4 match against the Torero's Ciaran Fitzgerald. Bergevi wound up with a 1-2 record in Boston, and Engsted was 0-3 in singles.
The Bears next welcome the USTA National Team to the Hellman Tennis Complex on Wednesday at 2 p.m., before Cal heads up I-80 to the Napa Valley Tennis Classic from Sept. 20-22.
