California Head Coach Jeff Tedford

On the game ...

"Oregon State played very well, and we made way too many mistakes. We had a lot of penalties and then, we couldn't stop them. They played great on offense. I don't think they punted until the second half. And we didn't do much on offense. Kevin went down and that kind of limits us, but give their defense credit as well. So, way too many mistakes."

On Kevin Riley's injury ...
"I don't know. I don't think they'll know more until the MRI (Sunday or Monday, probably). Whenever they can get an appointment but I hope it's as soon as possible. Right now it looks a little bit more serious than just your everyday sprained knee."

On what went wrong ...
"All the way around, we didn't protect the passer very well, we didn't block very well, too many penalties. It was just a poor effort."

On how Riley was after the injury ...
"He wasn't feeling very good. He was in a lot of pain. He came off the field with tears in his eyes, I'm sure that has a lot to do with his disappointment and felt like it was pretty significant. Kevin's a pretty tough guy. It's unfortunate. I didn't see it. I didn't see a replay or anything like that so I don't know what exactly happened. I didn't know if it was an ankle or a knee, but it's definitely the knee."

On the defense ...
"We didn't play very well on defense. They went right up and down the field. We knew Jacquizz was a great player, but they pretty much did everything they wanted. Their quarterback played well, they protected him well and he made a lot of plays."

On momentum from the Arizona State ...
"I thought we practiced well and thought guys were fired up before the game and ready to go. We had too many penalties and it seemed like the noise affected us. It looked like we never practice with noise, but we practice with noise every day. We were always in long-yardage situations. You can't win football games in you're in third-and-25 all the time."

On the team's attitude after losing the Kevin Riley ...
"We thought it was going to be a big loss and it was a big loss, but I thought Brock came in and played a big role and stepped up. I thought he played great."

On the discrepancies with their home and away results ...
"I think we were prepared. The coaches do a great job at preparing us. We just kind of came out flat, we didn't execute the plays that were called and we need to do a better job on that."

On OSU's defense...
"I don't think they surprised me at all. It was the same thing we saw on film."

Center Chris Guarnero
On OSU's defensive line...
"It was nothing we haven't seen before. We just didn't execute today is what it comes down to. We have to block and protect the quarterback and make holes and solid blocks for the running game."

On the penalties they received...
"We practice with noise. I don't know if it's a timing issue, it shouldn't happen though."

Defensive End Cameron Jordan
On the defensive inconsistency ...
"We have a pretty good defense. It's just the consistency that needs to keep showing up, that needs to happen."

On Oregon State doing anything unexpected ...
"No they did everything that we expected. Jacquizz found a couple of holes from the dents that we put in him and to his credit he did what he needed to do."

On how Brock Mansion played...
"He did some good things, but I'm pretty sure he's got some things he needs to work on and will get better and if Riley isn't back by next week I'm sure Coach Tedford will push him to be great."

On the challenge Jacquizz Rodgers presents ...
"He can run through legs and dive through ankles and he's a strong little guy. He's sort of shifty."

Quarterback Brock Mansion
On knowing he was going into the game ...
"Honestly, I was kind of in shock. I was like `okay, I guess I'm going in.' After the first series, when we shot ourselves in the foot a few times, it was just live bullets so everything was going faster. I was anticipating things being faster and I was trying to go even faster than I should have been going."

On whether he saw Kevin Riley get injured and what went through his head ...
"I did not see him go down. I saw the completion and I was getting ready to go for the next play. I was getting our personnel ready. I looked back and all of a sudden I see him in the end zone and I was like `oh.' I didn't even think about getting warmed-up. I was just like `what's going on.' Then I took all of my stuff off and got ready to play."

On how prepared he felt going into the game ...
"I felt pretty prepared. You always have to prepare like you're the guy. Kevin (Riley) gets the majority of the reps during the week but I got every single mental rep and he got the physical reps. As soon as we got into the season, I got more each week and then when I was officially named the No. 2 guy my numbers increased."

On playing in the game ...
"It was exciting to play, but at the same time, I feel for Kevin. I was trying to get the support and make sure everyone felt comfortable and confident and try to move the football. I don't want to say I wasn't prepared, because I was."

Oregon State Head Coach Mike Riley

On the win ...

"You never know how it's going to play out, and that's the beauty of our game. Every game is always a mystery and I think that our team got ready to play and there was an eagerness about our team since that last loss. I love that part of it because everyone was always asking me about how we'd rebound and I hesitated, because I didn't want to sound like I was making anything up because they just came back to work and had fun with it, and I'm really proud of them. I'm proud of the coaches for the preparation and the game plan, and the players for going out there and playing with a lot of passion."

On the first half ...
"Offensively, I think that was the key, we did have them (Cal's defense) off balance. If they could just hunker down there and play the run or rush the passer, it was going to be tough. But Danny (Langsdorf) called a great game, guys made plays, and there was just a great mixture there that I think was the key to the first half."

On today's offensive performance ...
"It was good to get that production. Stats don't always tell the tale, but they did today. Their rushing yards against our rushing yards was the difference in the game. There was pretty good balance (between rushing and passing). There wasn't a tremendous amount of production in the passing game, but it complemented the style of game it was. Just scoring points and keeping the ball and having sustained drives in the first half was a really beautiful thing to see, a really good execution. It was just a good win for the Beavers."

On Oregon State's defense ...
"It was really awesome. Mark Banker and the defensive staff are doing a great job of teaching these kids, helping them grow, and trying to get better each week. It's really coming alive; today was just awesome. This is a very good running football team. Ever since Jeff's (Tedford) been at Cal, he's had a ton of good running backs who really do a great job of scheming the run, and paying attention to how they run ball was a huge factor in the game. It all just fit together; the difference in the game was the difference in the rushing yards. We held them to almost nothing, and that was a big, big effort today."

Running Back Jacquizz Rodgers

On thoughts on the game ...
"Our defense almost had a shutout, and we were well balanced on offense. When our team scores like that, and our defense makes stops like that, it just makes us hard to beat."

On the touchdown throw ...
"We have worked on that play all week, and it is something that we bring out around Halloween time. I kind of made a mistake on the throw, but Colby (Prince) made the catch, which now makes me 2-for-2 in my college career in completing that pass."

On the win...
"Today's win was a statement game for us. After coming off of that tough loss last week, and then bouncing back with a great win like this, it could not have gone any better. I see the win as motivation to get the team as a whole back onto the right track. We need to build from this each week and continue to climb the latter."

On the running game...
"I am hard on us as a team, because I know what we are capable of. Today we came out to prove that we could play well."

Defensive End Gabe Miller
On thoughts on the defense ...
"I thought we played great. Coach Riley has been telling us all the last two weeks that we have to stop the run in this game. We came out and did exactly that; 23 yards rushing. I've got to give it up to my boys, my teammates. We played tough and fought hard. We came out and set the tone, especially on defense."

On taking personally the 119 ranking in the nation on defense ...
"Oh yeah, 119, we know. That is something during the bye week that James Dockery got started during practice. He started telling us `119, 119.' We had to prove to ourselves, so yeah we took that personally. Today's performance helped."

On the difference with no Kevin Riley ...
"We knew once he went down they were going to rely a little more on the run. We had to see what the new quarterback was going to bring. The game plan changed a little bit but we matched them step for step."

Linebacker Dwight Roberson
On quarterback pressure ...
"After Kevin Riley went down, we knew they were going to rely on their run game, so we started to bring the pressure. Coach Banker made the right calls and we got a couple of sacks in the process too."

On it being a complete game ...
"It was a great thing because it gives motivation for us and that encouragement that we needed. We know what we are and where we stand. We wanted to prove ourselves and that's what we did. We just took what we did in the Washington game and started doing it in the Cal game. We are just going to keep on going and going and that's the plan."

On not letting up after the lead ...
"The last four years I have been here we have had good games against Cal. In the Pac-10 everyone is good. Any day, any team can win, it doesn't matter, and it's who's the best that day. We know Cal struggles on the road but we weren't going to let that affect us."

On being 3-1 in the Pac 10 ...
"We thought about it after the Washington game and the bye week. Coach Banker put a thing on the wall that said `You know what, we are not out of this. We win the next six games, we are there.' We talked about it and now we just have to do it."
