Cal now has an overall record of 37-6 (.860) at Memorial Stadium over its last 43 home games. The Bears are a perfect 4-0 at home this season and have dominated opponents by a combined score of 189-34. Cal has also 24 consecutive home contests in even years on the calendar dating back to 2002.
The Bears notched 50 or more points for the third time in 2010, the first time Cal has scored 50 or more in three games within a season since 2003. Cal teams under Jeff Tedford have reached the 50-point mark 13 times. Today also marked the first time the team has scored 50 or more in three home games in the same season since 1922, the year before Memorial Stadium opened. The Bears played their 1922 home season at California Field.
TB Shane Vereen rushed for 91 yards and two TDs for an updated career total of 2,388 rushing yards. He now has his 13 TDs on the season (10 rushing, three receiving) and 32 in his Cal career (26 rushing, six receiving). Vereen also extended his string of games with at least one reception to all 33 of his collegiate contests, which is the longest current string by a Football Bowl Subdivision running back and the ninth-longest by all FBS players. He scored two rushing touchdowns, both off of direct snaps, and is now tied for fifth all-time at Cal for rushing TDs with Justin Forsett (2004-07). He is also now No. 10 all-time at Cal in career scoring, with 192 points.
QB Kevin Riley now has thrown 10 TDs with no interceptions at home this season. He is among Cal's all-time leaders in touchdown passes (50, No. 5), total offense (6,099, No. 6), passer efficiency (131.53, No. 7), passing yardage (6,137, No. 8), 300-yard games (2, No. 9-T) and 250-yard games (7, No. 10). Riley continues to lead the Pac-10's active quarterbacks in career victories (19-11 in 30 starts) and is tied for first in games played (35).
WR Marvin Jones hauled in a 52-yard TD reception (the longest scoring catch of his career) and also had a 42-yard grab. He leads all Cal receivers with 33 receptions and 508 yards receiving in 2010. He has three TD receptions this season. Today marked the third career 100-yard receiving game in Jones' career, with four receptions for 110 yards.
WR/KR Keenan Allen had a career-best 61-yard kickoff return, also the longest by a Cal player this season, as well as a 39-yard kickoff return, the third-longest of the season for the Bears. In addition to his two returns for 100 yards, he caught a career-high six balls for 40 yards and a touchdown, with the TD catch marking his team-leading fifth of the year.
WR/RET Jeremy Ross scored on a 19-yard rush, the first rushing TD of his career. He also had punt returns of 32 and 28 yards among his four returns for a season-high 77 yards. Ross entered the game No. 4 Pac-10 and No. 17 nationally at 12.2 yards per return. Ross also had a 32-yard reception that was his longest of the season as well as a season-high 140 all-purpose yards.
TE Jarrett Sparks made his first career kickoff return, good for 21 yards to open the second half.
DL Cameron Jordan equaled a season-high with six tackles.
LB Jarred Price recorded the second forced fumble of his career.
By limiting the Sun Devils to three first-half points, the Bears have now held the opposition to three or fewer points in the first half in five games.
In its four victories this year, Cal has forced 11 turnovers and gave up the ball only three times. The Bears are 41-5 when committing fewer turnovers than opponents during the Tedford era, compared to 16-9 when tied and 14-24 when opponents win the battle. In Pac-10 games, the stats are even more decisive as Cal is 25-3 with a positive margin in turnovers, 10-6 when the turnover table is tied and 8-20 with a deficit.
Cal recorded a season-high-tying three interceptions.
S Sean Cattouse made his first interception of the year (fifth of career) and recorded a career-high-tying totals of eight tackles and two pass breakups.
LB Mike Mohamed had six tackles and moved up two spots into fifth place all-time at Cal with an updated career total of 289 tackles.
LB D.J. Holt led the team in tackles with nine to take sole possession of the team's tackle lead with 48 on the season and recorded his first career sack.
DB Marc Anthony grabbed his first career interception.
S Chris Conte blocked a punt, recovered and returned it for a 17-yard TD in the third quarter for his first career touchdown and points. The last time a Cal player returned a blocked punt for a TD was 2008, when DB Bryant Nnabuife returned one 30 yards for a score against Colorado State.
LB Mychal Kendricks recorded an interception in the first quarter, his first of the year (second career), and his fourth turnover recovery this season (seventh career) as also has three fumble recoveries in 2010 and five in his career.
PK Giorgio Tavecchio tied a season best with three made field goals (also at Arizona). His 40-yard field goal tied his longest make of the season (also at Arizona). He also hit FGs from 23 and 26 yards. His string of 26 straight PATs was broken in the second quarter when his second conversion attempt of the day was blocked.
P Bryan Anger booted five punts for a 47.8 average, including two that pinned Arizona State inside its own 20-yardline.
Jeff Tedford's all-time record at Cal is now to 71-38 (.651), putting him three victories behind the school's all-time leader, Andy Smith (74, 1916-25) and two shy of James Schaeffer (73, 1909-15).Tedford has won seven of the last eight meetings between Cal and ASU.
