PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The California field hockey team fell to Providence, 2-1, Sunday morning in Providence, R.I. The Golden Bears' (7-7) lone goal came from junior Erin Magill. The Friars improved to 4-11 on the season with the victory.

The Bears struck first with Magill's score in the 16th minute. Magill tallied the goal on a penalty corner with the assists going to sophomore Deanna Kennedy and freshman Shannon Elmitt. Kennedy now has 20 career assists and is one shy of sixth all-time on the Cal record list.

Providence evened the match at one just three minutes later on a deflection. In the 52nd minute, the gamewinner was scored on a rebound by Christie Lonsky.

The Bears and Friars each posted 11 shots, while Cal had seven penalty corners to Providence's six.

Cal has two NorPac matches left in its final two regular-season contests. The Bears face Pacific on Friday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m. in Stockton.
