USC extended its win streak to seven in a row overall against Cal dating back to the Golden Bears' last victory in the series, a 34-31 three-overtime win in Berkeley on Sept. 27, 2003. Cal has scored 17 or fewer points in each of those seven losses. The Bears also fell for the fifth straight time against USC at the Los Angeles Coliseum, last beating USC in L.A. with a 28-16 win over the Trojans on Oct. 28, 2000.
The 42-0 deficit at halftime was the largest deficit a Cal team has taken into the locker room in school history, with the 42 points allowed in the first half tied for the second-most points given up by a Golden Bear team in a half. The most points Cal has allowed in a half was 45 in the second half of a 66-0 loss vs. Alabama (Birmingham, Ala., Sept. 15, 1973). The 42 points allowed by Cal in the first half also tied for the most given up in school history in the first half of a game, equaling the 42 given up at Washington State in a 63-37 loss on Oct. 18, 1997.
Cal dropped its fifth consecutive contest away from Memorial Stadium dating back to the team's last road victory 34-28 at Stanford on Nov. 21, 2009.
TB Shane Vereen rushed for 53 yards today to move past Reynard Rutherford and into the No. 10 spot on Cal's all-time career rushing list with an updated career total of 2,297 yards. Vereen also scored a touchdown on a 31-yard pass from Kevin Riley that was his 11th TD of the season (eight rushing, three receiving) and the 30th of his career (24 rushing, six receiving). Vereen entered the USC game tied for first in the Pac-10 and tied for fourth nationally in scoring, averaging 12.0 points per game. Vereen also extended his string of games with at least one reception to all 32 of his collegiate contests, which is the longest current string by a Football Bowl Subdivision running back and the ninth-longest of all FBS players.
QB Kevin Riley, who finished the game 15-of-29 for 193 yards and two touchdown passes along with two interceptions moved into a tie for No. 5 in Cal career TD passes (48, also Dave Barr) and is now No. 8 in Cal career total offense 5,885 yards, passing Gale Gilbert.
WR Keenan Allen equaled his career high with four receptions, one of which was a fourth-down TD catch to bring his team-lead reception total to eight.
WR Jeremy Ross had a season-long 30-yard catch in the second quarter.
WR Michael Calvin posted a career-long 26-yard reception.
KR Isi Sofele's 41-yard kickoff return was the longest by Cal this season.
LB Mike Mohamed, who recorded 11 tackles and a forced fumble today, now has 274 career tackles and is two stops away from equaling former Cal player Steve Henrickson for No. 6 on the all-time list for career tackles at Cal.
LB Mychal Kendricks recovered the fifth fumble of his career and his third of the season in the third quarter. The fumble was forced by fellow LB Mike Mohamed, who forced a fumble for the third time in his career and the first time this season.
