Kreck's Goal Not Enough as Delaware Beats Cal, 2-1

NEWARK, Del. -
California gave up a goal to Delaware in the fourth minute of their match Sunday afternoon at Rullo Stadium in Newark, Del., and Delaware went on to defeat the Golden Bears, 2-1. With the loss, the Bears fall to 2-4, 0-1 on the season, while Delaware improves to 5-2. Sophomore Jessica Kreck posted Cal's goal.
Kreck's goal came in the 52nd minute and it tied the game at one. The score was the third of the season for Kreck. She is tied with junior Natalie Nurnberg for the team lead. Kreck's goal was Cal's only shot on goal in the game.
Junior Lisa Lohre recorded a defensive save, and sophomore Erin Magill led the Bears with two shots.
Both Delaware goals came off of corners and both were scored by Casey Howard. The gamewinner was scored in the 63rd minute.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Haleh Nourani made three saves despite allowing the two goals. All three saves came in the second half.
Delaware outshot the Bears, 7-4, and earned five corners to Cal's three.
The Bears remain on the East Coast for a game against No. 1 Maryland on Monday, Sept. 21, at noon (PT).
